Instead of moving deck chairs around on the Titanic, which is what mayoral control is bound to do, could we listen to the educators of substance who have studied the issues of educational inequity between urban and suburban schools? Is there a chance that as a community we could come together without our fingers pointing at each other, realizing we basically want the same thing: success for all students? While debate and rhetoric rage on, a group of more than 100 educators, under Bill Cala's guidance, continue to collaborate to create a school that addresses the issues of inequity and graduation rates. The Regional Academy's design takes the best from schools around the country and the world and blends them into something that will lead the way in Rochester's effort to improve schools.

Like the School Without Walls student, Quenesha Bronson-Tramel, featured on this newspaper's June 23 front page, there is proof that when test scores are not the focus but rather a byproduct, success does happen. Together we can.
