(Why does the media say "Campaign gets ugly" when the question of "Where does Harry Bronson Stand on personal relationships" comes up on his sexuality but the headline does not read, "Campaign Gets Ugly" when we ask "Where Does Harry Bronson Stand on Mayoral Control??

Why does the headline read: "The Assembly race in 131AD is getting ugly." when the question of personal relationships come up, but reads, "Assembly Candidates weighing school plan" when the issue of Mayoral Control is asked?

On the issue of Mayor Duffy taking control of our schools, Mr. Bronson says: "he doesn't think it needs to be a campaign issue. "I don't think we need to go there," he said.

Who decides what are campaign issues and what aren't?

I, Harry Davis, am not Gay bit I have for decades had many Gay friends and I believe 100% in full Gay rights including marriage. No problem at all as far as I am concerned. Period. The problem is when we have media and candidates who won't state clearly where they stand and media who use "if it bleeds, it leads" mentality of "reporting" the facts. I marched proudly in the Gay parade last year and wrote an op-ed last year supporting Gay rights.

In numerous family living rooms this past Spring where Democratic caucuses were held to choose a party nominee, I heard Mr. Bronson repeatedly avoid the question of how his family was made up.

Voters want candidates to be honest and direct. The issue of Mayoral Control is viewed by myself and other candidates at the press conference yesterday as the major issue of this campaign because it proposes a major change in the governance of the city school district. Because this issue has a more profound meaning to people of color as they comprise a larger percentage of the school population, all candidates including Harry Bronson must to be very informed and and participatory in this debate.

When asked where Harry Bronson stands on Mayoral Control, Mr. Bronson replied: "I don't think we need to go there."

For example Mr Bronson did not appear at the New York State Assembly public hearing on Mayor Control last Friday. This appears to be a pattern of Mr Bronson. In my experience in participating the Democratic caucus meetings, when asked about his family relationships, is he "married or single", Mr Bronson did not answer by saying "I have a partner." (which I believe he does, or did until recently) but answered by saying "I am single". This is misleading. He also appeared in campaign photos with a hard hat, with children on a playground and a woman who looked as if she could have been his wife.

I am not against Gays. I do have a problem with candidates who run for office and then go down the slippery slope of misleading voters on who he really is and what he stands for.

In a third scenario, Assembly candidate Bronson has avoided any participation in the recent important sustainable transportation issue of the Mortimer bus barn. What all 3 examples have in common is not the issue of his sexuality but his relationship with the voters who may place him in office expecting one type of behavior and receiving another type of behavior, one which they may not be in favor of. This kind of behavior lacks courage of conviction.)

The Assembly race in 131AD is getting ugly.

Democrat Harry Davis yesterday said that the endorsed Democrat, Harry Bronson, was using misleading campaign material to cloud the fact that he is gay.

Bronson, who once went in front of Fox News cameras that had visited Monroe County over another lawmaker’s use of the “r-word” to say that as a gay man, he too has endured offensive slurs, called the charge offensive. (His interview did not make the cut).

“I find it offensive that they are resorting to (these) attacks,” Bronson said.

The campaign lit in question could have been a palm card that showed him talking to a woman at a playground with children in the background, Bronson said.

Davis brought up the charge during a news conference yesterday calling on Bronson to state his position on mayoral control - he hasn’t yet.

Bronson is the co-owner of Equal Grounds coffee house in the South Wedge, an LGBT business that sells gay and lesbian literature, and thanked his life partner when he was elected to the Monroe County Legislature.

The 131 AD will be vacant at the end of the year when Assemblywoman Susan John retires. Bronson works for Assembly central staff. Other candidates in the race are Democrats Willa Powell and Malik Evans and Republican Kenneth Kraus.
