Single Payer Informational Session
Single Payer Informational Session
May 24, 2010, 7:00-9:00pm
Metro Justice Office, 167 Flanders Street
At the Metro Justice Annual Meeting in January, members passed a resolution supporting implementation of a single payer health care system in the U.S. The recent health care legislation passed by Congress leaves millions of us without health care coverage, forces millions of us to purchase private health insurance that will most likely not be comprehensive, and will not cut out the $400 billion a year currently spent on administrative costs and profit that a single payer system would, and is therefore unsustainable.
Please join us on Monday, May 24, at the MJ office (167 Flanders St) from 7 – 9 pm to learn more about a nonprofit, publicly financed, privately delivered health care system. There will be a presentation by Dr. Leon Zoghlin, a MJ member and president of the Finger Lakes Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program (FLPNHP). Bill McCoy, longtime MJ member and health care reform activist and member of the Interfaith Health Care Coalition (IHCC) will facilitate.
You will also learn about Single Payer New York (SPNY), a statewide single payer coalition affiliate with Metro Justice. Many Metro Justice activists and local organizations, including FLPNHP, IHCC, and Progressive Democrats of America Genesee Valley (PDAGV) have been working with SPNY for the last two years to advocate for Improved and Expanded Medicare for All. Also, SPNY will be holding a regional conference in Rochester on June 12. Save the date.
Our goal is to get Metro Justice members informed on single payer health care, and engaged in campaigns that will begin following the May 24 meeting and the June 12 conference.
